Last December, we released the Portuguese version of our second 2025 bulletin, which will soon be available in English. Since then, the state of the world has drastically worsened. The US intervention in Venezuela on January 3rd to capture Nicolás Maduro and take him to be imprisoned in the US has unfolded into a vertiginous aggravation of the world disorder already detected in our previous newsletter.
This aggravation had been immediately preceded by months of military threats against Venezuela with the bombing of boats suspected of drug trafficking and the murder of crew members, and the deployment of large contingents of troops and naval and air fleets. Even so, the boldness and brutality of the Caracas operation were perplexing to many due to the flagrant violation of international rules. It set in motion a dynamic of rapid change in global geopolitics, with the expanded threats of invasion of other territories, to begin with Greenland. Concomitantly, the rotation of the domestic repressive machinery run by Trump has also accelerated, particularly in operations targeting migration, culminating with the murder of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis.
To enable the visualization and better understanding of these events, SPW offers our readers an extensive compilation of news and analyses of developments since January 3rd. And, as soon as possible, we will look more closely at how this somber and rapidly shifting dynamics is impacting the politics of gender, sexuality, and human rights.
