Last monday (May 2), an initial draft majority opinion, written by US Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito and leaked by Politico, unveiled what has long been considered credible: the Court has voted to overturn Roe v. Wade 1973 landmark ruling, that granted constitutional ground to the right of abortion.
Albeit Chief Justice Roberts asserted the vote is not the final decision, a major and seismic repercussion rapidly spreaded worldwide, including in Brazil – from where we operate -, where fresh news highlight that the decision has embolded far-right Brazilian administration to take similar moves towards curbing abortion rights.
SPW is gathering – in English, Spanish and Portuguese – assessments and analysis on the background and implications of the draft.
