SPW training on theory, research and policy
Sexuality Policy Watch (SPW) is organizing a second training, focusing on how theory, research and policy can shape meaningful social change. Participants will be coming from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Ecuador, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Phillipines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, and the United States. This course will be now hosted in Buenos Aires (23 to 27 August) on the week before the International Association for the Study of Sexuality, Culture and Society (IASSCS).
The course will be led by Richard Parker, Sonia Corrêa, Rosalind Petchesky, members of the SPW’s Steering Committeeand Rafael de la Dehesa, Professor of Political Science at CUNY, who is a close collaborator of SPW. But the workshop will also count with the contribution of Gloria Careaga, who is a professor at UNAM in Mexico, co-secretary general of ILGA and also a member of SPW Steering Committee; Dora Barrancos, Argentinean sociologist and historian , director of CONICET; Mauro Cabral, Argentinean philosopher and trans activists, co – director of GATE (Global Action for Trans Equality), Vivek Divan, Indian lawyer who is a policy officer for HIV/AIDS at UNDP, AkshayKhana, Indian professor and researcher at the Institute for Development Studies from Sussex University in the UK.
