On February, 24th, 2017 the young Chinese artist Ren Hang left us. His legacy is a vast portfolio of delicate images of androgynous juvenile bodies that has attracted the attention of the high circuits of the art world as well as many social media followers.
While living in China, until few years ago, Ren Hang was subject to sporadic political persecution. Few days before his departure the international media informed that feminist blogs and social media groups had been closed by state security, after Chinese feminist voices publicly expressed sharp critiques of the Trump administration (here and here) This post is a tribute to Ren Hang and the resilience of contemporary expressions of Chinese feminisms.
