African Regional Conference on Population and Development, based at Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia (3 and 4 October 2013), has resulted on a final document called “Africa Regional Report”, which brings main findings and recommendations. The text is too generic and evasive on issues like abortion and maternal mortality, as well as other topics regarding women sexual and reproductive rights.
For example, the text recommends measures to increase access to safe abortion “as far as the law permits”. The text was composed from information given by the countries delegations, that mentioned initiatives on gender and sexual and reproductive rights. However, it’s registered that issues like criminalization of marital rape, criminalization of intimate partner violence and protecting the girl child against harmful practices are given less priority.
