The event is organized by Mujer y Salud en Uruguay (MYSU) and the International Women’s Health Coalition (IWHC).

The event intends delve into realities and strategies regarding the use and abuse of Conscientious Objection in the abortion practice, taking into account the knowledge and experieces of different countries in order to help advocacy of women rights.

Through presentations, plenaries and workshops, human rights and legal frameworks linked to Conscientious Objection Will be dealt with. Also issues such as regulation and implementation of laws in sexual and reproductive health will be treated.

The choice of Uruguay to hold these activities is based on the fact that this country has been the country where law was modified to ensure legal services of abortion which were incorporated to the Integrated National System of Health. At the same time, according to researches of MYSU a large number of professionals have raised Conscientious Objection, making this one major obstacle to applying the law.
